New York CNN —A Texas man is facing insider trading charges and jail time after he used information gleaned from eavesdropping on his wife’s work-from-home calls, netting him $1.76 million from an upcoming oil industry acquisition.
Loudon purchased 46,450 shares of TravelCenters stock after learning of the impending merger, according to an SEC filing.
When the share price popped 71% following the announcement, he sold all of his shares, raking in more than $1.76 million.
The SEC’s complaint, filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas, charges Loudon with violating the antifraud components of federal securities laws.
She reported the trading to her supervisor and was later terminated from the company, according to the filing.
